Angel of Goliad Descendants Historical Preservation

Attention All Cousins and Alvarez Relatives:

Summer is about gone and another school year will soon begin for all the Alvarez clan enrolled in schools. We the AOGDHP wish the very best for each and every one of you especially those little Alvarez who are to begin Kindergarten this year and first year college. CONGRATS!!!!      To the Gerardo Alvarez clan son of Matias Alvarez and grandson of to Panchita Alvarez, Rebecca Shokrian recently had the honor of meeting our half-uncle's Baltazar Alvarez daughter who recently celebrated her 60th Wedding Anniversary, Bertha Alvarez Garza who is married to Jesus P. Garza from San Antonio, Texas. What a joy to meet more new cousins of the Angel of Goliad lineage! Did you know we have more teachers and a Border Customs Officer from Brownsville in our midst of Alvarez? Bertha told Rebecca that her side of the family mostly grew up in the Brownsville area of Texas. Hopefully, when we have our Alvarez Reunion in Goliad in March of 2005 we will all have a chance to meet her and her family. Baltazar as you may recall was Gerardo's son from his first wife. Gerardo later married Josefa Marroquin Alvarez the mother of Rebecca Ramirez, Gerardo, Ernesto, Rodolfo, Ernesto , Lupe, and Arturo Alvarez from Kingsville, Texas. Rebecca Shokrian stated that Bertha's family is a beautiful close knit family who welcomed her warmly and are looking forward to the Alvarez Reunion. in 2005.

Other news:

Consuelo Alvarez wife of the late Ernesto Alvarez from Kingsville, Texas recently celebrated her 97th birthday on July 14th. Her comments were: "I have seen so much in my life time and the Good Lord keeps me going". Her mind is very lucid and loves to talk about her family. She says today's youth is spoiled and have lost much respect for themselves and life and country. She says she remembers the times when one worked hard for a living and enjoyed seating outdoors without the loud noise of traffic, music and TV. and carried long conversations when house doors were unlocked and people could come and go without fear of being attacked when decency, modest talk and manners and dress were respected. She remembered how she met her husband Ernesto when she was only 15 and fell in love with him at first sight. Her advice to wives: just keep quiet when your husband is upset and don't argue. It won't get you anywhere.   What a woman!! She hopes to see her 100th birthday and wants everyone to join in her celebration.

Other news : Arnold Alvarez and wife Christine  just returned from their overseas trip to Greece, Spain, Croatia and hopefully will share his pictures with the rest of us.  We heard Edna Nora Alvarez Rothwell was caught swimming in her new pool at her new home in California!!! Way to go on that retirement road ....     We hope to see everyone at the  August 14th meeting of the AOGDHP  in San Antonio. We need everyone's help to make the Alvarez Reunion 2005 a reality.  Vets and Military personnel of the Alvarez clan we still need your pictures for our VETs and military section of our webpage.
