There are two known statues of Francisca Alvarez - The Angel of Goliad -

The first one was done by Hugo Villa and is actually located at the museum at Presidio la Bahia. This is the information we have found about Hugo Villa.

HUGO VILLA

Hugo Villa was born in Roppolo, northern Italy, on 20 July 1885. His family village is Ponderano. His father was Dr. Villa Lorenzo and mother, Cabella Teresa. In Turin, he studied medicine and music, (he was a violinistand violin maker). Then, in Albertina, he studied sculpture, at the Academy of Beaux Arts, (R. Accademia Albertina delle Belle Arti) for one year. He worked in Bangkok and Mexico. In 1918/20 he immigrated to the U.S.A., and he worked for many years with Gutzon Borglum.

The second, and more recent, is the one sculpted by Che Rickman and is located at the Angel of Goliad Plaza in Goliad, TX.

CHE RICKMAN

She is a sculptress graduate student of the sculpture program of the University of Houston. She is currently a teaching assistant there.
